HYCON Have several types of chisels for different tasks. Here, you can get an overview of what each type is used for so you can choose the right chisel for your breaker.
1. Moil point chisel
A pointed chisel that concentrates impact into a small area for maximum penetration. Used for starting breaks in concrete, breaking boulders/rock, and breaking down hard materials.
2. Narrow chisel
A general-purpose flat chisel for breaking and splitting hard materials. Used for concrete demolition, removing slabs, trimming edges, breaking up frozen ground, and light rock work where a broad cutting face helps “slice” and separate material.
3. 50 mm wide chisel
A narrow flat chisel (50 mm) for controlled breaking with better access than wider asphalt tools. Used for cutting narrow trenches, working close to walls/kerbs/edges, removing tiles or thin concrete sections, and precise slab work where you want a clean, guided break line.
4 & 5. Asphalt chisel (3" and 5")
A wide, flat tool designed for cutting and lifting asphalt surfaces. It's used for road repair, trench cutting, patch removal, and stripping worn asphalt layers. The 3" version is a good all-round size for controlled breaking, while the 5" version covers more width for faster removal of material.
6. Tamper
A flat-faced compaction tool that transfers impact into the surface for packing rather than breaking. Used for compacting soil, gravel, and backfill in trenches, improving base preparation, and settling material around posts, foundations, or repair areas.
7. Tie tamper
A compaction tool shaped for working around railway ties and confined ballast areas. Used for packing ballast and aggregate tightly around sleepers/ties and along edges where a normal tamper is less effective due to access and shape.
